Maegan has made an amazing career out of her knowledge and intellect for not only styles in stores, but for her creative do-it-yourself looks. She focuses on making every woman feel confident and sexy, whether they are a size 0 to a size 20 making her the ideal fashion-forward role model for women around the globe. Reasons to Be Beautiful had the pleasure of interviewing Maegan and getting to the richness of her blog and her life as a flattering fashionista.

RS: When did you realize you were such a fashion guru?

MT: I’m not sure if it was something I realized but more was just a passion of mine and enjoyed doing and as I began sharing it on my blog, readers responded.  I’ve always had friends come to me for advice though, so I guess in retrospect, I realized it when I was very young.

RS: What inspired you to make an eco-friendly, DIY blog?

MT: I took an Environmental Science class in college when I was about 19 that really hit a nerve with me.  Over all the fashion classes I was taking at the time, this one spoke to me.  I’ve always been concerned with environmental issues and one day they collided with my graphic design skills  and I created a company called beSmart beGreen selling cute canvas shopper totes to replace plastic bags.  The blog came secondary as a way to promote my business and also keep up on environmental issues.  I wish I had more time now to work on it but it has taken a backseat to …love Maegan.

RS: What is the most beautiful outfit in your closet?

MT: Probably the ensemble I wore to our wedding reception party in 2006.  I found a brand new-with tags dress from the 60′s that I altered to fit the way I wanted and wore it with a faux fur leopard coat my grandma made in the 60′s.  It represents so many things I love, including my husband.

RS: How have your fans been a support system in your life? How have they helped shape lovemaegan?

MT: Wow, so much really.  You don’t realize when you start a blog how big the blogging community is and how many different niches there are.  Most of the support comes when I post about my issues with getting pregnant.  Not only do I get emails from women thanking me because they’re going through the same thing and feel so alone, but the love and support and kindness from all the comments puts a smile on my face.

RS: When did you first evolve your personal style?

MT: I think from the first time I got dressed as a child.  It’s an ongoing process really of inventing and reinventing [yourself] that I truly enjoy and hopefully will go on until I’m a very old lady.

RS: When did you first begin creating your own DIY styles?

MT: From a very young age, actually.  We didn’t have a lot growing up so I’d relish a bag of hand-me-downs from older family members and friends.  It was like getting a whole new wardrobe; I’d dive in and make everything work for me.

RS: Being so fashion forward must make you one sweet catch… what is your dream date outfit?

MT: … well, I love a great pair of jeans and a blazer but my husband loves pretty little dresses, so somewhere in between there I suppose.

RS:  Who gave you all your fashion advice?

MT: I don’t really have a fashion icon or remember getting fashion advice other than “never look like you tried too hard” from my mom.  My grandma was really inspirational to me though. She was very stylish and loved fashion and always had all the latest magazines that I’d pour over when I’d go to visit… and after that, I’d go look in her closet, through her shoes and jewelry and even through her makeup.  I have most of her jewelry now and a lot of her clothes that I wear on a regular basis.  I only wish we wore the same size shoes.

RS: What’s the next step for loveMaegan.com and for your designing career?

MT: Well, I’m working on my first book now, tentatively titled: Rock Your Assets which is due out Spring 2013… and I’m not exactly sure what’s to come in between or after that.  I love my blog, so that is my main focus, but other opportunities come knocking because of it, which is fabulous. I’m open to everything at this point.

RS: Lastly, what’s the best piece of fashion advice for all the women out there?

MT: Forget about what the scale says and what the clothes tag says… try it on and if it fits and flatters your body, then buy it.  But also, wear what makes you feel fabulous!
